Production and output value of edible fungus in Yunnan
The diversity of edible fungus in Yunnan Province is remarkable, with more than 900 species known, accounting for 90% of the known species in China and 45% of the known species in the world. Edible fungus are the traditional leading industry in Yunnan. The adaptive growth area, yield and output value of wild edible fungus rank first in China, and commercial wild edible fungus account for more than 70% in China. According to the statistics of the Provincial edible fungus Industry Upgrading and Development Office, in 2023, the total output of edible fungus in the province was 1,103,400 tons, with a total output value of 44.125 billion yuan, with the total output and total output value increasing by 12.21% and 15.33% respectively. The prefecture (cities) with relatively large output are Qujing (291,700 tons), Chuxiong (155,800 tons) and Kunming (125,800 tons). The prefecture (cities) with higher output value are Kunming (12.248 billion yuan), Chuxiong (6.531 billion yuan), Zhaotong (5.798 billion yuan), Qujing (4.837 billion yuan) and Dali (3.342 billion yuan).

The province mainly collects and sells wild edible mushrooms, accounting for about 70% of the total output value. There are mainly varieties such as Boletus, Tricholoma matsutake, Termitomyces, Russula virescens, Ganba, Lactarius, Russula, Coprinus gallinarum, Truffle etc. The cultivated edible fungus mainly include Gastrodia elata, Lentinus edodes, Pleurotus ostreatus, Morchella esculenta, Auricularia auricula, Agaricus blazei, Flammulina velutipes, Pleurotus ostreatus, Poria and other varieties. Yunnan Province is committed to fostering a green, health-conscious, and sustainable edible fungus industry. It leverages its diverse climate, rich germplasm resources of edible fungus, and the advantages of high yield and superior quality. The province is dedicated to enhancing the quality of wild edible fungus and broadening the cultivation scope of these fungus.In 2023, the output of wild edible fungus in Yunnan Province was 396,700 tons, up 25.5% year-on-year, and the output value was 29.557 billion yuan, up 17.97% year-on-year. The output of cultivated edible fungus was 706,700 tons, up 5.92% year-on-year, and the output value was 14.568 billion yuan, up 10.31% year-on-year.
Export of edible fungus to earn foreign exchange
Yunnan's export items are mainly boletus, Tricholoma matsutake, truffle and other wild edible fungus, and the products are exported to Europe, America, Asia and other countries and regions. In terms of cultivating edible fungus, the varieties with large export volume are Flammulina velutipes, Lentinus edodes and Morchella esculenta. According to the data provided by Kunming Customs, in 2023, the province's edible fungus were exported to 34 countries and regions, with a total export volume of 8953.48 tons and an export volume of 631 million yuan, down by 3.27% and 45.93% compared with 2022.
